Mattress Removal Newtown — Kerbside Pickup, Flat $80

Updated

Mattress removal in Newtown is a flat $80, any size, any condition — with collection from the kerbside only. Newtown is share-house territory, which means mattresses move constantly, and it's also one of the hardest parts of Sydney to physically get one out of.

The Newtown terrace problem

Most of 2042 is Victorian and Federation terraces, and they were built long before anyone owned a king mattress. The specific difficulties:

  • The staircase turns. Almost every Newtown terrace has a stair that doglegs partway up, with a low ceiling over it. Arrange suitable help to move large mattresses safely outside before pickup.
  • Narrow front doors and a hallway barely wider than the door.
  • No off-street parking. Terraces open straight onto the footpath, and King Street traffic doesn't help.
  • Rear lanes — many terraces have one, and where they exist they usually make the job much faster.

Please arrange for the mattress to be safely placed outside at the kerbside before pickup. Our team does not collect from inside homes or carry items down stairs.

Why Newtown turns over so many mattresses

Sydney University and the surrounding student population drive an annual cycle, but Newtown's share-house culture runs year-round. Rooms change hands constantly, and a mattress that came with the room rarely leaves with the tenant.

February and July are our busiest months here, tracking the semester calendar, followed by the general end-of-year exodus in December.

Inner West Council rules

Newtown falls under Inner West Council. Like every Sydney council, the rule is that items may only go on the nature strip once you've booked a collection for a specific date — putting a mattress out any other time is illegal dumping and fineable.

In a dense terrace street this gets reported fast, because a mattress on a narrow footpath blocks it entirely. Prams and wheelchairs can't get past, and neighbours notice immediately.

Collections are also capped per household per year, and if you're renting, your landlord may already have used the property's allocation without telling you. More on what councils will and won't take.

What it costs

$80 flat per mattress, single through to super king, any condition including stained or damaged. Kerbside collection, no size surcharge, no call-out fee.

Share houses usually book several at once — $80 each, one trip. Splitting $240 three ways at the end of a lease is straightforward; chasing three separate solutions in the last two days isn't.

Moving out of a Newtown share house

Book the pickup for two or three days before the final inspection. Mattresses left in the property come out of the bond at the agent's contractor rate, which is reliably more than $80. Full end-of-lease guide.

If the house also has an old fridge to deal with, that's from $80 in the same visit.

Nearby suburbs we cover

Frequently asked questions

My stairs are really tight. Will it fit?

Arrange suitable help to move your mattress safely outside to the kerbside before pickup. Stair carrying and indoor collection are not included.

Is there a parking problem?

Sometimes, and it's fine — we plan for it. If you have rear-lane access, mention it, it usually speeds things up.

Do you charge more for a king?

No. $80 regardless of size.

Can you come same-day?

Often on weekdays, if you book before noon. Collections run Monday to Friday, 6am–4pm. Newtown is close to our regular Inner West runs.
