Blacktown Council Clean-Up Rules 2026: 12 Bookings, Mattresses and Fridges
Updated
Share
Blacktown City Council lets you book up to 12 household clean-ups a year at no extra fee, each limited to one box-trailer load. You get the next available date, which can be up to four weeks away. Mattresses are collected separately afterwards (allow up to two business days), and fridges and washing machines can take up to five business days. The owner or tenant must be living at the property, and strata managers and real estate agents can't book.
Mattress $80, any size — book a mattress pickup. Small–medium fridge, washing machine or TV $80, large fridge or TV $150 — book a fridge or appliance pickup. We collect from the kerbside, Monday to Friday, 6am–4pm.

How to book, and the phone number
Book online through the "Household clean up request" form on the council's clean-up page, or call 02 5300 6000. If you're only putting out a mattress, with no other household items, there's a separate "Mattress only clean up" form on the same page.
The online form asks whether you're the owner or the tenant — those are the only two options. If your confirmation email hasn't arrived within 24 hours, the council asks you to check your spam folder before calling. If you can't find your address in the form, call the same number.
Clean-up dates: next available, not a set week
Blacktown doesn't run area-wide clean-up weeks. You book and get the next available date, and the council warns you may have to wait up to four weeks, so plan ahead. On the day:
- Not before the night before. Don't put anything out until the night before your collection date.
- On your nature strip, somewhere accessible and not blocked by vehicles, and not blocking the footpath or driveway.
- One box-trailer load at most. The council says it can't collect more than that.
The council is blunt about the rules: it's an offence to put goods out when these conditions aren't met, fines apply, and the goods may not be collected. Putting items out without a booking can be treated as illegal dumping (checked 27 Sep 2026).
Mattresses: collected separately — allow up to two business days
The council coordinates mattress collection, but contractors pick them up, separately from the rest of your clean-up. Allow up to two business days from your collection date. The council's rules for mattresses:
- Place the mattress apart from your other items.
- Don't put anything on top of it or under it.
- Don't take it back off the footpath after your clean-up has been collected — it's still coming.
If it hasn't gone after that, the council asks you to call 02 5300 6000. The council says the mattresses it collects are either refurbished or recycled (checked 27 Sep 2026).
If you need the mattress gone before a move or a delivery, we collect it from the kerbside for $80, any size — see mattress removal in Blacktown for how local pickups work. To compare Blacktown with other councils, read our guide to council mattress collections across Sydney.
Fridges and washing machines: up to five business days
Fridges are on the council's collection list, but they're picked up separately and can take up to five business days from your collection date. Remove the doors or tape them shut so children and animals can't get trapped, and make sure the fridge is empty. The booking form's appliance options include large fridges, small fridges and washers, so say which one you're putting out (checked 27 Sep 2026).
That means a fridge can sit on the nature strip for most of a week. If that doesn't suit, arrange for the fridge to be safely placed outside at the kerbside before our pickup — see our guide to fridge removal in Blacktown and Mount Druitt.
Lounges: keep them whole
The council asks you not to break up furniture, and it won't collect anything that can't be safely carried by two people. Leave the lounge in one piece on the nature strip and, if it's a heavy one, check it meets that two-person rule before you book.
TVs and e-waste: not in the clean-up
Blacktown City Council treats e-waste, including TVs, as problem waste that can't go in the household clean-up or your red or yellow bins (problem waste page, checked 27 Sep 2026). For TVs and computers, the council lists drop-off points under the national recycling scheme, including the Penrith and Hawkesbury Community Recycling Centres, REMONDIS Seven Hills and Officeworks (accepted items vary). Check opening hours before you go.
NSW doesn't have a statewide ban on binning e-waste (Victoria does), but it shouldn't go in any household bin: anything with a battery can start a fire in the garbage truck, and TVs and computers can be recycled for free through the national scheme. Our guide to e-waste and household bins in NSW explains more. By contrast, Canterbury-Bankstown's council clean-up does accept TVs.
Who can't book a Blacktown clean-up
These are the council's own rules, and they decide whether the service is an option for you:
- Strata managers and real estate agents — the council doesn't accept bookings from them.
- Nobody living there — the owners or tenants must be living at the property at the time of collection.
- Properties that don't pay for a council waste service.
Living in a unit doesn't rule you out. The council's waste service policy lists 12 household clean-ups for multi-unit dwellings too; it's the managers who can't book on residents' behalf (checked 27 Sep 2026).
If you're a landlord or property manager dealing with a mattress or fridge left at a property, our guide for landlords and property managers covers how it works.
Frequently asked questions
How many council clean-ups do you get a year in Blacktown?
Up to 12 a year, with no extra fee, each limited to one box-trailer load (2m x 1m x 1m). Units get 12 as well, but residents must book them — strata managers and agents can't.
How do I book a Blacktown Council clean-up, and what's the phone number?
Use the "Household clean up request" form on the council's clean-up page, or call 02 5300 6000. There's a separate "Mattress only clean up" form if a mattress is the only thing going out. You get the next available date, which may be up to four weeks away.
When will Blacktown Council pick up my mattress?
Mattresses are collected separately by contractors — allow up to two business days from your collection date. Keep it apart from other items with nothing on top or under it, and don't take it back in. If it's still there after that, call 02 5300 6000.
Does Blacktown Council pick up fridges?
Yes, as part of a booked clean-up, but separately — allow up to five business days. The fridge must be empty, with the doors removed or taped shut.
Can you put a TV in the Blacktown council clean-up?
No. The council treats e-waste, including TVs, as problem waste that can't go in the household clean-up. Use a drop-off point under the national TV and computer recycling scheme, such as a Community Recycling Centre.
