Canterbury-Bankstown Council Clean-Up 2026: Mattress, Fridge and TV Rules
Updated
Share
The City of Canterbury-Bankstown gives houses, townhouses and small blocks two booked clean-ups a year, each up to three cubic metres, and it takes mattresses, lounges, fridges, washing machines and TVs. You book online or on 02 9707 9000, and the council asks you to allow up to three weeks. A mattress only goes if you add it to your booking — it gets its own booking number.
Mattress $80, any size — book a mattress pickup. Small–medium fridge, washing machine or TV $80, large fridge or TV $150 — book a fridge or appliance pickup. We collect from the kerbside, Monday to Friday, 6am–4pm.
Canterbury-Bankstown council clean-up rules at a glance
- How many: two a calendar year for a house, townhouse or building with five or fewer units — or both at once as a "double" of six cubic metres.
- How much: up to three cubic metres each time, a pile three metres wide, one metre high and one metre deep.
- Mattresses: accepted, but only if they're in the booking.
- Fridges and washing machines: accepted, doors removed.
- Lounges: accepted, unless they count as a "large or heavy item" (see below).
- TVs and computers: accepted. Batteries are not.
- Six or more units: the caretaker, building manager or strata books for the whole building.

How to book, and the phone number
Book on the council's booking site, cleanup.cbcity.nsw.gov.au, or call Customer Service on 02 9707 9000 (9am–5pm, Monday to Friday). You'll get a booking reference number — write it and the collection date on paper and stick it to your items so the crew knows they're booked.
Two rules that catch people out (council booking site, checked 28 Sep 2026):
- Book by 15 December for it to count against this year's allowance. Later bookings come out of next year's.
- Cancel or change at least three working days ahead. The manage booking page says that after midnight three working days before your date, a cancellation or reschedule still costs you one of your two pickups.
Clean-up dates and collection times
There's no citywide clean-up week. The council collects in different areas on different days of the week, and the booking form shows the dates available at your address. Its main page says to allow up to three weeks; its booking site says the wait is usually two to six weeks, depending on the time of year.
- Put things out the day before — the council's printed Clean-Up guide says no more than 24 hours before, or you risk a fine.
- Collection runs 5am to 5pm, and you don't need to be home.
- Kerbside, at the front, in the spot you named when booking. Crews can't enter private property.
- Over three cubic metres? Tick "double clean-up" when booking. An undeclared oversized pile could be penalised, left behind, or cost you your second clean-up.
Don't put anything out without a booking: the council's guide calls that illegal dumping and warns of a fine of up to $4,000. To see how other councils' allowances compare, read our guide to council mattress collections across Sydney.
Mattresses: add it to your booking — it gets its own number
The council only collects a mattress if you included it in your booking. You then get a separate mattress booking number, and the council's guide sets three steps:
- Add the mattress to your booking.
- Write the mattress booking number on the mattress.
- Place it apart from your other items.
Because mattress bookings and general clean-ups are different bookings, you change or cancel them separately (manage booking page, checked 28 Sep 2026).
If you'd rather not wait, we collect the mattress from the kerbside for $80, any size. Please arrange for it to be safely placed outside at the kerbside before pickup. We're based in Bankstown, so pickups in Bankstown, Padstow, Condell Park, Revesby, Punchbowl, Lakemba and Campsie are often same-day if you book before noon. See mattress removal in Bankstown and Canterbury for how local pickups work.
Fridges, washing machines and lounges
The council lists fridges and washers among the appliances it collects, and lounges and couches under furniture. Its printed guide adds two safety rules: fridges and washing machines must have their doors removed so children and animals can't get trapped, and tall items must be laid down so they can't tip.
Watch the size rule. "Large or heavy items" are on the can't-collect list, and the guide describes them as items over 1.5 metres long or tall, or too heavy for two people to lift. If you have a long lounge or a tall fridge, check with the council when you book rather than on the day.
For a fridge still in the kitchen, a lounge upstairs or a washing machine in a unit block, arrange for it to be safely placed outside at the kerbside before our pickup; our team does not carry items from inside homes, on stairs or from apartments. Our guide to fridge removal in Bankstown and Canterbury covers defrosting and access.
TVs and e-waste: clean-up or drop-off day
Unlike many Sydney councils, Canterbury-Bankstown accepts televisions and computers in a booked clean-up. Batteries of all sizes are on the can't-collect list, and the council says e-waste isn't accepted in your yellow-lid recycling bin.
NSW doesn't have a statewide ban on binning e-waste (Victoria does), but it shouldn't go in any household bin: anything with a battery can start a fire in the garbage truck, and TVs and computers can be recycled for free through the national scheme. Our guide to e-waste and household bins in NSW explains more.
Canterbury-Bankstown e-waste drop-off events
The council holds two free electrical waste drop-off events a year for residents — generally June at Bankstown Paceway in Condell Park and November at the Council Administration Building car park in Campsie. The next one listed is:
- Saturday 24 October 2026, 9am – 3:30pm
- 58 Moorefields Road, Clemton Park
- Accepted items include TVs, monitors, desktops and laptops, printers and phones. No cost.

Between events, the council points residents to Officeworks stores and to other councils' Community Recycling Centres, which may accept e-waste from outside their area. Apartments: the building books, not you
In a block of six or more units, the caretaker, building manager or strata books on behalf of the whole building: four clean-ups a year for 6–49 units, six for 50 or more, with up to three cubic metres per unit each time. Ask your building manager, who sets the date and tells you where to put things. The council says items must stay on private property until the day before the booked date (apartment blocks guide, checked 28 Sep 2026).
When a paid pickup makes more sense
The council service is good value if you can wait and get things to the kerb. It's harder when you've used both clean-ups this year, when you're moving out or have a delivery coming, when your building's next date is weeks away. The council's own site notes that sometimes you'll need to organise a removal company (it doesn't recommend any). With us it's a fixed price per item for kerbside collection.
