Mattress Removal Bondi — $80 Flat, Kerbside Collection

Updated

Mattress removal in Bondi is a flat $80, any size, any condition — collected from kerbside only. Bondi is one of the suburbs we're in most often, because almost everything about it generates mattresses: six-month leases, share houses, backpackers, and a moving weekend at the end of every month.

Why Bondi is a mattress suburb

Postcode 2026 has one of the highest rental turnover rates in Sydney. Share houses reshuffle constantly, working-holiday tenants arrive and leave on visa cycles rather than lease cycles, and a lot of furniture is bought cheap with no intention of moving it on.

The result is predictable: at the end of every month, and especially through summer, mattresses appear on footpaths across Bondi, North Bondi and Bondi Beach. It's the single most dumped item in the area.

The walk-up problem

Bondi's housing stock is mostly red-brick and art deco blocks from the 1930s to the 1970s. Which means:

  • No lift. Most blocks are three storeys with a single stairwell.
  • Tight landings. A queen mattress has to be turned on the half-landing, and a king often has to be bent.
  • Narrow front doors and hallways that were designed before anyone owned a king bed.

Arrange any help you need to move the mattress safely to kerbside before your booked collection. We do not enter homes or carry items down stairs or through apartment buildings.

Parking and access

Bondi parking is the other half of the equation. Resident-only zones cover most of the streets behind the beach, and on weekends — particularly through summer — there is often nowhere legal to stop within a hundred metres.

Things that help us:

  • Tell us about legal stopping space near the kerbside collection point
  • Collections run Monday–Friday, 6am–4pm; weekday mornings are easiest for parking around the beach
  • If you need a service lift or loading dock to move your mattress to kerbside, arrange it with building management before our collection

Waverley Council and illegal dumping

Waverley is one of the stricter councils in Sydney on this, for the obvious reason — dumped mattresses are a visible, constant problem in the area.

The rule: you may only place items on the nature strip once you have booked a bulky collection for a specific date. Putting a mattress out at any other time is illegal dumping, and it's fineable. Enforcement here is active, and an item with anything identifying in or under it is easy to trace back.

There's a second catch specific to Bondi's housing: in a strata block, individual residents generally can't book a council collection themselves. It has to be arranged by the owners corporation or building manager, and many buildings prohibit leaving items in common areas or on the footpath entirely. If you're a tenant in a Bondi flat, the council route is often not actually available to you. More on how council collections work.

What it costs

$80 flat per mattress. Any size from single to super king. Any condition — including stained, torn, water damaged or bed-bug affected. Kerbside collection only, with no size surcharge, no call-out fee, no fuel levy.

Multiple mattresses are $80 each in one trip, which is how most Bondi share houses do it — three beds at the end of a lease is $240 and it's done in a single visit.

End of lease in Bondi

If you're moving out, book a Monday–Friday pickup two or three days before your final inspection, not after. Anything left in the property at handover can be charged against your bond at whatever rate the agent's contractor charges — usually well above $80. Full end-of-lease guide here.
