Two very different Parramatta jobs

Apartment basements in the newer Parramatta towers — a genuinely different problem. Basement car parks have height restrictions, and a tow truck frequently cannot get down there. If your car is in a basement, tell us up front: we may need to arrange for it to be moved to street level first, or bring different equipment. Discovering this on the day wastes everyone's morning.

Will you pay for it?
Depends on the vehicle. Heavy, common models with the engine, gearbox and catalytic converter still fitted are worth the most. Stripped, light, severely rusted or fire-damaged cars are worth less — sometimes less than the cost of collecting them, in which case it's a modest removal fee.

The Service NSW steps
- Remove the plates before we arrive
- Cancel the registration and return them — if it hasn't expired, you may get back the unused motor vehicle tax, less a cancellation fee (not the registration or plate fees)
- Lodge the notice of disposal
- Cancel your insurance and ask about a pro-rata refund
- Take the toll tag out — the most forgotten step in Sydney
- Empty the car — glovebox, boot, under the seats, service book
Have proof of ownership and photo ID ready. Until the rego is cancelled and disposal lodged, the vehicle is still legally yours — tolls and fines included. Full paperwork guide.
Don't leave it on the street
An unregistered vehicle on a public road can be reported as abandoned and impounded by City of Parramatta, with towing and storage charged back to the registered owner. Councils never collect cars.
