Old car being loaded onto a tilt-tray tow truck in the Sutherland Shire

Car Removal Sutherland Shire — Cronulla to Menai

Updated

Car removal across the Sutherland Shire — running or not, registered or not, towed from wherever it sits. From Cronulla walk-ups to Menai family homes, we cover the whole Shire from our Bankstown yard. How our car removal works.

The Shire's typical car job

Two patterns dominate down here.

The second car that stopped being driven. Shire households often run more vehicles than the Sydney average — space for them, and longer commutes. When one stops being worth registering, it moves to the side of the driveway rather than leaving. A year becomes five.

The work ute or 4WD that's done its time. Heavy, common models, usually with the engine still in them — which is generally good news on value.

Coastal corrosion is real here

Cars that have lived near the water at Cronulla, Woolooware or Kurnell carry more underbody corrosion than the same car from further inland. Sills, subframes, suspension mounts and brake lines are where it shows.

It affects value, so it's worth mentioning up front rather than having it "discovered" on the day. Any honest operator will factor it into the quote from the start. What actually drives the number.

Access

Most Shire properties have driveways, garages or carports, which makes this straightforward. Things worth telling us:

  • Whether it rolls and steers
  • Where exactly it's parked — driveway, garage, side of the house, back yard
  • Gate width if there's a gate
  • Whether it's sunk into grass after sitting
  • Whether a boat, trailer or another vehicle needs to move first — genuinely common in the Shire

For the Cronulla apartment blocks, basement parking often has a height limit a tow truck can't clear. Flag it if that's where the car is.

What we collect

  • Cars that won't start, or have no engine
  • Unregistered vehicles
  • Written-off cars, statutory or repairable
  • Fire and flood damaged vehicles
  • Cars on flat tyres or on blocks
  • Utes, vans and 4WDs

We take vehicles — not boats, caravans or trailers.

Will you pay for it?

Depends on the car: sometimes we pay for it (by bank transfer — cash payments for scrap vehicles aren't allowed in NSW), sometimes it's a removal fee. We'll tell you which, honestly, before the truck is booked, and the number holds on the day. You won't get the "guaranteed top cash" headline some operators advertise, followed by a driveway renegotiation. More on that pattern.

The paperwork

Remove the plates, cancel the registration with Service NSW and return them, lodge the notice of disposal, cancel your insurance, take the toll tag, and empty the car. Proof of ownership and photo ID on the day. Full guide.

Sutherland Shire Council doesn't collect vehicles — no council does. An unregistered car on the street can be impounded with costs charged back to you.
