Old second fridge in a Chatswood garage surrounded by boxes

Fridge Removal Chatswood & Willoughby — From $80

Updated

Collection is kerbside only. Please arrange for your items to be outside at the kerbside before pickup. Collections run Monday to Friday, 6am–4pm.

Fridge and freezer removal across Chatswood and Willoughby starts at $80 — degassed under licence and recycled for metal. The most common job we do in this part of the North Shore isn't the kitchen fridge. It's the one in the garage.

The North Shore second fridge

There's an old fridge or chest freezer humming away in a large share of the garages between Chatswood, Willoughby, Artarmon and Roseville. Bought new fifteen or twenty years ago, demoted to the garage when the kitchen was renovated, and quietly running ever since to keep a few drinks cold.

An uninsulated Sydney garage regularly passes 45°C in summer, and a fridge doesn't make cold — it moves heat out. The hotter the room, the longer the compressor runs. An old unit in those conditions can cost $200 to $400 a year in electricity.

A useful test: unplug it for two weeks. If nobody notices, you have your answer. Full breakdown of what it's costing you.

Two kinds of job here

Houses — Willoughby, Northbridge, Castlecrag, Roseville. Arrange for the fridge to be outside at the kerbside before pickup; indoor collection and carrying from driveways or entries are not included.

Towers — around Chatswood station and Victoria Avenue. Arrange any service lift or building access needed to have the fridge safely moved outside to the kerbside before our arrival.

Why it can't just go out on the kerb

Willoughby City Council, like every Sydney council, only permits bulky items on the nature strip once a collection is booked for a specific date. Anything else is illegal dumping and fineable. Most councils also require fridge doors removed or taped for child safety before collection.

But the real reason is the gas. Every fridge and freezer contains refrigerant in a sealed circuit that has to be recovered by a licensed handler before the unit is crushed — otherwise it vents to atmosphere. We handle that chain for you. See how.

What we take

Fridges, bar fridges, wine fridges, upright freezers and chest freezers — $80 for a small–medium unit, $150 for a large one, working or not, any age. Two or three in one trip are simply priced per unit — one visit is the efficient way to clear a kitchen fridge and a garage unit at once.

A washing machine or an old TV can go in the same trip. We don't take dryers, dishwashers, ovens or air conditioners.

Preparing it

Empty it, defrost a chest freezer a full day ahead and bail out the meltwater, unplug it, and leave the doors on. Arrange for it to be safely placed outside at the kerbside before pickup. We do not collect from inside garages or homes.

Nearby suburbs we cover

Chatswood, Chatswood West, Willoughby, Artarmon, Naremburn, Northbridge, Castlecrag, Roseville, Lane Cove, St Leonards, Crows Nest, Lindfield and Gordon. See the full North Shore page.

Frequently asked questions

It still works — is it worth anything?

Not really, second-hand. An old inefficient fridge costs the next owner more in power than it saves them in purchase price, which is why the used market for them is thin.

Can you get it out of a packed garage?

No. Collection is kerbside only. Please arrange for it to be outside at the kerbside before pickup.

Chest freezer as well?

Same trip, priced like a fridge ($80 small–medium, $150 large). Defrost it a day ahead.

Do I need to be home?

Not if the fridge is outside at the agreed kerbside collection point before pickup. Send any relevant collection instructions when you book.
