How Much Does Couch Removal Cost in Sydney? (2026 Prices)
Updated
Share
Couch removal in Sydney costs $80 for an armchair, $180 for a 2–3 seater and $300 for a 4–5 seater or modular lounge with us — a fixed price by size, for kerbside collection. A booked council collection usually costs nothing extra within your yearly allowance, but you wait for a date and get the couch to the kerb yourself. Dropping it at a waste facility means a vehicle, two people and a gate fee — at Kimbriki in Terrey Hills the minimum charge is $45 or $60.
Below is what each option actually costs, what pushes the price up, and how the "free" options can end up costing you time.
Armchair $80 · 2–3 seater $180 · 4–5 seater or modular $300. Prices include GST, with no call-out fee. We collect from the kerbside anywhere in Sydney. See sofa pickup prices and book →
Couch removal costs at a glance
- Our pickup: $80, $180 or $300 depending on size. Please arrange for it to be safely placed outside at the kerbside before pickup.
- Booked council collection: usually no extra charge within your allowance. Kerb only, with waits of up to three or four weeks. An extra collection in the Inner West costs $183.50.
- Charity pickup: no charge if they accept it — clean and undamaged only, and often weeks away.
- Drop it off yourself: a gate fee (Kimbriki's minimum is $45 for local residents or $60 for everyone else), plus a ute or trailer and a second person.
Our prices by size
The price depends on how big the couch is, and nothing else changes it on the day:
- Armchair: $80
- 2–3 seater: $180
- 4–5 seater or modular: $300
Each piece is priced on its own, so a three-piece lounge suite — a 3-seater and two armchairs — is $180 + $80 + $80 = $340, collected in one visit. You pay online when you book, so the price is settled before we arrive.
Wondering which size band a big L-shape or a multi-piece modular falls into? Call 0428 01 01 01 before you book and we'll tell you. If you've got a lot going at once — sofas, mattresses and appliances — a full truckload of bulky items is $1,000.
What changes the cost — and what doesn't
Size
With us, size sets the price: the three bands above. With a council collection, size decides whether it's collected at all. Parramatta won't take a lounge longer than 2 metres, and Blacktown, Parramatta and the Inner West won't take anything two people can't lift.
Stairs and lifts
Collection is kerbside only; our team does not carry items on stairs or from inside homes or apartments. The fixed prices are in our 2026 removal price list. In an apartment building, arrange help and book the goods lift with your building manager to get the couch safely to the kerbside before pickup — our guide to bulky item removal in strata buildings covers how.
Stairs also matter for the no-charge options. Council crews collect from the kerb only, so you have to get the couch down first. Vinnies NSW drivers can't go up any stairs at all — the couch must be at ground level or there must be a lift.
Location and timing
Our prices are the same across our Greater Sydney service area, with no call-out fee. We work Monday to Friday, 6am–4pm, from our yard in Bankstown. Book before noon and we can often come the same day; otherwise it's usually 24–48 hours.
What councils charge to remove a sofa
All five councils we checked will take a lounge in a booked household collection. Canterbury-Bankstown, the City of Sydney and Blacktown say it's free or carries no extra fee within your allowance; Parramatta and the Inner West offer it to households on the council's domestic waste service, and Parramatta lists no fee for a standard booking. The real cost is the wait and the carrying. Details below are from each council's own page (checked 28 Sep 2026); our guide to getting rid of an old couch in Sydney covers the booking rules in more depth, and the council bulky collection guide explains how booked collections work generally.
- Canterbury-Bankstown: two free collections per calendar year for houses and buildings of five or fewer units, each up to three cubic metres. Allow up to three weeks.
- City of Sydney: a free pick-up every week for residents — book by 2pm the day before your area's collection day. If the couch is in good condition, the City asks you not to book and to rehome it instead.
- Blacktown: up to 12 collections a year with no extra fee, but you may wait up to four weeks for a date. Strata and real estate managers can't book.
- Parramatta: up to four pre-booked collections a calendar year (or scheduled dates, depending on your address). The next date may be up to four weeks away.
- Inner West: up to two cubic metres per collection. An extra collection in the furniture category costs $183.50, and the council says everything collected in that category goes straight to landfill.
So a council collection is the cheapest route if you're within your allowance, the couch is under the size and weight limits, and you can get it to the kerb the night before.
Dropping it off yourself: gate fees
Kimbriki Resource Recovery Centre in Terrey Hills publishes its prices online (price list from 1 July 2026, checked 28 Sep 2026). Its what-you-can-bring page lists furniture as mixed waste, which costs:
- Northern Beaches or Mosman residents (with proof of residency): $45 minimum for up to 100kg, then $505 a tonne.
- Everyone else: $60 minimum for up to 100kg, then $505 a tonne.
You also need a ute, van or trailer big enough for the couch, a second person to lift it at both ends, and the time for the round trip. For anywhere else, call the facility before you load up to check whether it takes lounges and what it charges.
Charity pickup: no charge, if it's accepted
If the couch is clean and undamaged, a charity collection costs nothing — but it's their call, not yours (all checked 28 Sep 2026):
- Salvos Stores offer free collections for bulky donations. Only selected stores take furniture, it must not be "broken, stained or torn", and in high-demand areas bookings are running three to four weeks ahead.
- Vinnies NSW pickups are limited, need photos first, and the goods can be refused on the day. Drivers can't go up stairs.
Which option is cheapest for you?
- Ground floor, a council booking left, and no deadline: the council collection costs nothing extra.
- Clean, undamaged and at ground level: try a charity first.
- You own a ute and live near a facility that publishes its fees: dropping it off yourself can be cheaper.
- Over the council size limits, out of bookings, or needed gone this week: a fixed-price pickup is usually the better deal.
